GINGERMAN RACEWAY DRIVER'S EDUCATION EVENT
MAY 21-22, 2005
Volunteers needed! See below.
You are cordially invited to join MVR-PCA at the GingerMan Raceway. Our event will be run similar to that of last year in that there will be no separate instructor's run group, and run groups will be determined by driver's lap times. This should allow drivers to have most of their laps unobstructed, without always running up on slower cars and having to follow them around until the next passing zone.
To accomplish this, you must list your fastest lap time ever at GingerMan in the car you will be driving, and your average lap time (which you can run lap-after-lap under normal circumstances) in the same car. If you don't know your lap times, but you have run track events in the past, pick someone else with whom you have run and can compare times with, find out their lap times, add or subtract the amount of time you think you are faster or slower than them, and list those times (to the nearest second). If you have not driven at GingerMan before, put "NA" in the two spaces on the form. Please do not guess at your times as this only causes problems within the groups.
All drivers will be grouped based on lap times. This means there may be instructors and students in the same run group, depending on fast or slow cars, and driver ability. It doesn't matter how fast or slow you and your car may be, we are just trying to equalize the run groups. If you can turn faster laps but don't want to run at that pace all the time, put down lap times which reflect the pace you would like to run. We are not promoting fast times, and we will be monitoring lap times to ensure compatibility in the groups, so please make every effort to come up with realistic lap times. The object is for drivers to be comfortable and safe.
The concession stand will be open for donuts, bagels, coffee, etc. and lunch, as well as snacks throughout the day. In addition, we will have cold pop and other goodies for you at no additional cost.We will have new embroidered polo shirts available for sale. There will be a Saturday evening dinner at the track for an additional cost.
On Friday night the track will be open from 5:30 to 8:30 for test and tune so that you can get familiar with the track and make sure your car is ok. The cost will be $60.00 payable to the track at the gate.
We will be rigidly sticking to the time schedule. If we are forced to shut down for disabled cars, etc., an equal amount of time will be taken from each run group to get back on schedule.
Minimum helmetrequirement will be Snell SA95. Open cars must have roll bars.
We are limiting the entry to 76 students, so don't wait until the last minute to register. Priority will be given to Porsches. Headquarters for the event will be the Guesthouse/Lighthouse Inn on Phoenix Rd., South Haven, MI (phone 269-639-9900). We have a block of rooms being held until April 21, but you must call and make your own reservations. Be sure to mention that you are with the Maumee Valley Region Porsche Club.
Your entry will be confirmed by mail up to one month before the event.
We look forward to sharing a fun, safe weekend at GingerMan with you!
Volunteers needed! We are in need of volunteers for this event. If you enjoy weekends away, then you'll enjoy helping out. The track is located in South Haven, on the southwest corner of Michigan. South Haven is a nice little town on Lake Michigan - great for sight-seeing and shopping at the quaint little shops. With enough volunteers, you won't have to spend the entire weekend at the track. If you can't make it, consider helping out at the Mid-Ohio driver's education school on November 5-6.
